ALPS Mountaineering Meramac 2-Person
Dome-style 2-person tent with awning
The Meramac series tents are all free standing 2-pole designs with shock corded fiberglass with aluminum ferrules. The ferrules are the "connectors" that hold the poles together and we use aluminum, rather than steel, because aluminum can never rust. Our fiberglass poles are also normally one size larger than normal to offer you a sturdier, stronger tent. We use lightweight but strong polyester fabrics. The side walls are uncoated so the tent can "breathe" under the urethane coated fly. The fly uses a pole in the top, which gives you an awning over each door for excellent rain protection. Our fly is full length on the sides, not 3/4 length like some others, for better weather protection. We even have our factory seal the seams on the floor and fly for maximum water repellency. Entry and exit are enhanced with 2 doors, which means if you have to get out at night, you don't need to crawl over the others to get to the only door. The second door is also nice for extra ventilation in hot, muggy weather. Our door zippers are a #8, which is one size larger than most, for extra durability. Mesh storage pockets and a gear loft are included to help you keep your gear organized.

If you're interested in an even heavier oxford floor and larger #10 zippers, you can always check out our Meramac Outfitter Series as another option.

Weathered the Storm

I set this tent up on the side of a mountain, in gorgeous weather, in Alaska. The next morning a front moved in and pounded me with wind and rain for the next 10 days. The Meramac 2 withstood wind gusts in excess of 25 MPH. It kept me and my gear completely dry entire time. When I tore the tent down I discovered one of the poles was completely shredded. Even with that the tent never collapsed. I would have given it 5 stars had it not been for the broken pole.

Nearly perfect

This tent is nearly perfect. I slept in it for five days this past week. The rain fly works as it should, and I am glad that it did (nearly three inches of rain one evening). It was comfortable enough for me and my gear. The only minor flaws that I have found is that is does not allow for much air movement through the tent and one of the elastic cords in the tent poles snapped making a ten minute one person job for set up a three person thirty minute job. Other than that I would highly recommend this tent to anyone.

I'm new to camping and this was almost perfect.

I found the tent easy to set up and take down. Easy to repack. Over a six week motorcycle trip I made camp over 25 times. Most were one night stands, the longest five nights. I used a twin size air mattress that touched on three edges and left a couple of feet for baggage on the one side. I could not stand in the tent. I have bought the Meramac 5 that is 6 foot in the center for my 2019 camping.

The quality and value of the tent is great. I was careful and had no issues, no tears, no broken poles, and never leaked. I did get cold when I camped at 8,000 feet in Flagstaff.

I would recommend this for anyone that does not have to stand in the middle of the night.
