Taurus 4 Gray/Red | 5422642 |
I've taken this tent out twice now. Both times it rained hard. 1 time it rained sideways on top of tom jones mountain in upstate New York to the point where visibility was down to 10-15 feet. The other time I set up the tent in a low area and had a bit of a puddle underneath a corner of the tent. Both times the tent stayed 100% dry.
Might be a little tight with 4 people, but it should be doable. It easily fit my girlfriend and I, our sleeping pads and bags and both of our medium army surplus molle rucksacks with room to spare. The vestibule on the rain fly is a life saver when it rains to keep your boots dry without having to bring them into the tent.
Definitely would recommend to beginner campers, as it is easy to set up. Once you have your spot it takes less than 5 minutes.
We have had 9 in inventory for 6 or so years for our scouts. Have held up well. Had zero pole issues. They have survived major storms at summer camp as well as monthly camping year round. Always dry inside. Ordering 5 more today.
I have been impressed by the structural stability of this tent. We took 5 Webelos Scouts to a large event, The boys had the Taurus 4. That night the temp dropped 35 degrees, poured rain, and winds gusted 15 - 20 miles an hour. I sat up peaking out of my tent waiting for a Scout to emerge or yell for a leader, other Troops tents blew over and dining flies became projectiles. Our Webelos slept and stayed very warm. The next morning I rolled up my tent as it snowed. When i unzipped the vestibule to wake the boys, i could feel the heat radiate from the tent. Over half the troops packed up at 2:30 am when we had a brief break in the rain and wind. Thank you Alps for keeping our Scouts safe and warm!
